Suzan DelBene enters race for new first Congressional District
Washington state’s Department of Revenue director Suzan Delbene says she will run for Congress—this time, in the new First Congressional District.
Delbene, a former high-tech executive, ran unsuccessfully against Republican Dave Reichert in 2010 for the 8th Congressional District.
Delbene’s home now falls within the new First District which stretches from east King County north to the Canadian Border. Republican and Democratic members of the state redistricting committee consider it a swing district.
Delbene is entering a very crowded race, with many Democrats already expressing interest in the race. In an August primary, she would face fellow Democrat Darcy Burner, who also ran against Reichert and showed a strong ability to raise money in those races. From the state legislature, Sen. Steve Hobbs and Rep. Roger Goodman are also running, as is businesman Darshan Rauniyar.
Of note: the press release announcing Delbene’s candidacy came from consultant Sandeep Kaushik, who worked on Burner’s previous campaign.
