Nickels for Secretary of State? The Times’ Jim Brunner reports that former Seattle mayor and history buff Greg Nickels is considering a run to replace retiring Secretary of State Sam Reed.


Tax or fee? A day after the governor proposed a $1.50 fee on a barrel of oil, some Republicans are asking questions. If this translates into higher prices at the pump, is it a back door approach to a gas tax hike? And if so, does it require a two-thirds vote?


What’s the education solution? Rep. Ross Hunter lays out some ideas in light of the state Supreme Court ruling. Also at noon today.
