Gov. Gregoire appoints Steven Gonzalez as State Supreme Court Justice
Gov. Christine Gregoire is appointing Steven Gonzalez to the state Supreme Court.
Gonzalez has been a King County Superior Court judge and was a former city prosecutor, assistant U.S. attorney and private practice lawyer.
Gonzalez would be the only Hispanic state Supreme Court justice. He’s a graduate of the University of California Berkeley law school.
He will replace Justice Gary Alexander who faces mandatory retirement at age 75. Gonzalez would have to run for election next year.
This is Gregoire’s second appointment to the state’s highest court. She appointed Debra Stephens when Justice Bobbe Bridge retired.
