Reardon with double-digit lead in Snohomish County Executive race

Despite last-minute revelations that the state patrol is investigating his travel expenses, incumbent Democrat Aaron Reardon appears to have a comfortable lead in the race for Snohomish County Executive based on early returns.

The first Snohomish County results show Reardon with 57% to 43% for Republican Mike Hope, a Seattle Police officer.  Note, these results includes ballots that were processed through Monday, so according to the elections division, voters who cast ballots after Saturday would not be counted in these first returns.

Last Thursday, Reardon denied any wrongdoing in connection to the investigation into his expenses.  Meanwhile, he had accused Hope of inappropriate conduct 12 years ago, when Hope was suspended over an incident involving a Mill Creek officer who pulled over his date for suspicion of drunk driving.  It has been a nasty race with plenty of accusations traded back and forth.
